Aurora Borealis

A light in the sky
Northern lights are wery often seen in Iceland, but we can not order it at any time.

Day 1

Arrival in Keflavík, meet & greet with your driver/guide.
We start driving up to the famous Geyser area in our comfortable Super Jeep where we stay overnight. Over a good dinner we go through our program for next days and get a briefing about the Northern Lights. After dinner we go for our first Northern Lights hunt.

Day 2

Just after an early breakfast we explore the area of the great Geyser. We will see the geyser Strokkur spout boiling water to the height of 25 to 30 meters. We then head up the road to look at the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall cascading down the white coloured Hvítá river with its powerful glacial run-off waters. After seeing these two magnificent sights we head south through the agricultural headland of southwest Iceland along a river valley with small settlements. After about an hour drive south we turn eastwards along the south coast of Iceland
and pass stunning waterfalls such as Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss before we reach the beautiful and small village of Vík. We have lunch in Vík or its neighbourhood.

From Vík we head over the incredible expanses of black sands from the volcano Katla. And there is more to come because then we drive through the largest lava field that has run in Iceland?s historical times. Eldhraun is a mossy grown lava field from 1783. The lava field is 565 km2 in we reach the glacial lagoon in the afternoon after an impressive drive past towering mountains and glaciers. The glacial lagoon is probably among the most powerful sights in Iceland. After we have admired the icebergs for a while and possibly spotted some seals we go to our hotel in the town of Höfn in Hornafjördur fjord. Nightly hunt of the Northern Lights.

Day 3

Strokkur GeyserWe are staying in the realm of the great Vatnajokull glacier and drive to the glacier to experience the size and vast expansion of the largest ice cap in Europe. We start a visit to the Glacier Museum, before we head up to the real Vatnajökull glacier, the 8.300 km2 big ice cap. On the way we might spot reindeers roaming around. We have a picnic lunch on the glacier. Optional today is different activity such as snowmobiling  tour. In the afternoon we return back to Hornafjörður after adventurous day where we relax before our nightly Northern Lights hunt.

Day 4

After breakfast we depart for Reykjavík with Air Iceland, the domestic flight. You are picked up from Reykjavík airport and transported to your hotel. Rest of day is at your own leisure. (-Such as visiting museums and galleries, shopping, dinner, nightlife, etc.)

Day 5
